Instagram comments that get replies: how to write them, and how custom comments work

Comments are the strongest signal a post can have. What a good one looks like, why generic praise fails, and how ordering custom comments works.

Instagram comments that get replies: how to write them, and how custom comments work Instagram

Likes are cheap for the person giving them, so Instagram treats them as a weak signal. Comments take effort, so the platform weighs them heavily, and so do the people reading your post. An empty comment section makes a strong post look ignored; a handful of real-sounding comments invites many more.

What a good comment looks like

The comments that get replies share three things:

  • They are specific. "That sunset behind the fort is unreal" beats "Nice pic". Specific means the reader can tell the commenter actually looked.
  • They ask or add something. A question ("Which lens?") or a small addition ("Went there in March, the road is fixed now") gives the owner and other readers something to respond to.
  • They sound like a person. Casual grammar, an occasional emoji, no hashtags, no links, no perfect punctuation in every line.

Why generic praise fails

"Amazing!!! Follow me" comments are filtered by Instagram, ignored by readers and easy to spot as bought. The same is true for twenty comments that all use the same three words. Variety is what makes a comment section look alive: different lengths, different tones, a few questions, a couple of emoji-only reactions, someone tagging a friend.

How custom comments work

For posts where the comments should say something particular, launch posts, product posts, anything where you want questions answered in public, we offer a Custom category. You write every comment yourself, one per line, or generate a draft with the built-in AI by picking a topic (travel, fashion, food, fitness and so on), a language (English, Hinglish, Hindi, Spanish, Portuguese, French or Arabic) and a style. Every line is editable before you pay, and only the lines you approve are posted.

A few tips for writing them:

  1. Mix lengths. Two words, one sentence, two sentences.
  2. Include three or four questions. They give you something to reply to, and your replies count as comments too.
  3. Match the language your real followers use. A Hindi-speaking audience notices English-only comments.
  4. Reference what is actually in the post. The AI does this when you fill in the "about the post" field.

What to do after they land

Reply. Every reply is another comment and a signal that the post is a conversation. Pin the best question to the top. Comments are the one bought signal that keeps working after delivery, because they change how every new visitor reads the post.
